Director | Althea Dunn
Althea has been adventuring in Pisgah for years, starting during her time at Brevard College in the Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education program. She has led programs for numerous camps in Transylvania county as well as co-led an expedition as an adjunct for the WLEE department. She aims to build community and provide an outdoor-based education program to a variety of families.
Lead Teacher | Julia Dunn
Julia Dunn is a certified early childhood (2 ½-6 years) Montessori teacher. She has worked in private and public schools and spent years as curriculum director for a non-profit, sliding-scale preschool. She is thrilled to be in Brevard working with amazing children and her sister!
Assistant Teacher MK Hendrix
Mary Kathleen, known by her friends and family as MK, has passionately cared for and learned from children of all ages for 20+ years. MK earned her degree in early childhood education from Clemson University. She has most recently worked for an outdoor learning program, Earthshine, designed for middle school students. MK is excited to teach and engage with younger children where she will continue to explore and learn from nature and each student this summer!
Assistant Teacher Alex Perri
Alex is a Brevard College alumna from Naples, Florida who stuck around after graduating after falling in love with the area. When not at the farm, she enjoys hiking and biking in nearby forests, playing soccer in various adult leagues, and binge-listening to true crime podcasts. She also works part-time as a copywriter for a software and technology marketing agency. Alex also studied Spanish in Costa Rica in college, and is excited to incorporate the language in the classroom.
Assistant Teacher Brittany Carlton
Brittany is an avid music and nature lover. She made her way back to the Brevard area during the summer of 2018 after taking time to travel and explore the outdoors. Brittany's sibling, 15 years younger, turned her passion to caring for younger children. She is excited to be with Pisgah Collective and can not wait to see what the future holds.
Assistant Teacher Ellen Mason
Originally from Raleigh, Ellen graduated from Appalachian State University in 2013 with a degree in psychology. Ever since, Ellen has dedicated her time to working in outdoor education, trail running all over the world, playing with her coonhounds and chickens, and growing the hottest peppers on the planet. She is eager to share her love of nature, exploration, and learning with the Pisgah Collective family!
